Wish I had my copy back...

I owned this book way back in grade school and it was a load of fun. Skohottentot, Skolinkenlot, and nine birds in a flock (and then some!), all found their way down the Fat Cat's gullet before he met up with the ubiquitous woodsman of folklore and his trusty ax. No worries, though, as the cat made it through his operation OK as did his intended dinner (all of it!). This is one of those delightful "building" stories where, as each new "victim" was eaten, his/her name was added to the list so that when the cat finally met up with the woodsman, his menu of the consumed covered the better part of the page.
The artwork is simplistic but fun (the cover art is representative), especially for kids, and the text is easy with enough flourish to make it a great read-aloud book. Incidentally, my brother, who was not yet in school at the time and could not read actually memorized the text and pretended to read the book aloud for my parents, which is why I went looking for it for my own kids. Too late, though, as they are now way too big for the Fat Cat, but I sure wish I had found this book 10 years ago!

we first purchased this book in 1974 for our new born daughter and it has been a family favorite since then...through more children and 8 grandkids. We are so pleased that we were able to find another copy in great condition to pass on to the original recipient of the first book...which we are keeping to share with our youngest grand kiddos.
