About the Author
Beverly Kirkpatrick (Port St. Lucie, FL) has worked with AutoCAD for over 30 years in Interior Design and Education. In the interior design field she was employed to do interior design, space planning and finish schedules for commercial projects such as elementary schools, banks, hospitals, churches, and car dealerships. She held the titles of Interior Designer, Project Manager and Design Director. She has taught AutoCAD in both community colleges and high schools. She is the co-author of AutoCAD for Interior Design and Space Planning which was published first in 1992.  

James Kirkpatrick (Port St. Lucie, FL) has worked with AutoCAD for over 40 years. He started his drawing career as a design drafter and technical illustrator. He has taught AutoCAD in community colleges and industry. James is the founder of a cooperative education program at El Centro College and began the AutoCAD Training Center at Eastfield College. He was the CAD Program Chair for 30 years and recently retired from full-time teaching. He is the author and co-author of over 30 books on drafting and design. James holds BIA, MEd and EdD degrees.

Hossein Assadipour (Upper Montclair, NJ) is a CAD expert and has been teaching for over 30 years. He is currently Professor in the Engineering Technology & Computer Science Department at Essex County College, an adjunct professor in the Engineering & Computer Science Department at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in Newark, NJ; and adjunct faculty in the Math & Computer Science Department at Rutgers University. He teaches courses in CAD, CNC, CAM, Manufacturing Materials & Processes, and Robotics.  He is the author of Learning AutoCAD in 20 Projects and Learning MicroStation in 20 Projects with West Educational Publishing.

About the Author
An award-winning author of over fifteen historical romance novels, Margaret began her career at the age of eight when she concocted stories featuring a lovely damsel and a handsome, misunderstood thief. She's had a soft spot for handsome, misunderstood rogues ever since.

Unknowingly pursuing her destiny, Margaret graduated with distinction from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. She also demonstrated a facility for language by winningthe Winston Churchill Silver Medal for public speaking. She now utilizes this gift of the gab by giving workshops for various writing groups, including Romance Writers of America and the Canadian Authors Association.

What a disappointment!

After hearing many raves as to Ms. Moore's writing talent, I decided to purchase this book. I wish I hadn't been so influenced by the comments of others. This book was so slow going for me that I found myself skipping paragraphs at a time, something I've never done before.
I found the heroine irritating, argumentative, bossy, and razor tongued and lost sympathy for her early on. Its hard to believe that a woman who supposedly lived in that day and age could be so sharp tongued and opinionated - even to the king. While I liked the hero for the most part, he seemed wishy-washy at some points. The weak willed sort who doesn't really seem to stand for anything or stick to any opinion. He would be angry or annoyed at something one moment then in the bat of an eye he would become good-humored again and give in to the heroines whims.
If you really feel you must read this book, do yourself a favor and borrow it from the library first to see if you like it. I wish I had left it on the bookstore shelf.

Sir Richard Blyth, who lost his family's estate while he was out of the country with the king when the king is exiled, is told by this same king to marry Elissa, whose husband was the person who bought Richard's family estate, as a way to regain his home. Several things are wrong with this book. For starters, Richard was the heir to the family's estate so how could any transaction of sale be legal if it was done without his authority? It was his to sell, not his uncle's. Besides that, as a reward for Richard leaving England with the king and his support, wouldn't you think a king could get his home back? So the king forces Elissa to marry Richard. So now Richard can go home, of sorts. For Richard is not legally the owner nor would any children of his and Elissa become the new heir as she already has a son. Then Richard is forced to sign the marriage agreements moments before the wedding without reading it. It bascially emasculates Richard, gives him 0 dollars and no authority as his wife's advisor or any say so in the running of the estate. Please, the king would not have the ability to overturn that agreement either? Then, it seems that Richard's parents were orgy loving folks. And everyone from his old neighborhood, including Richard, thinks he is evil because of that. And, someone is trying to kill Elissa's son and she tells Richard that she thinks it is!...

Slow Going but a Good Read

I read others reviews before buying this book and I am glad that I decided to buy it anyway.

I personally found this book a good read. Sir Richard Blythe lost his birthright when he was out of the country with the King who had been exiled. When the King was restored to power Richard could not just walk back home and expect it to be his. It had been sold by his greedy uncle while he was away - even though he didn't have a right to. The King could have just given Richard his land back but that wouldn't have been fair to the new owner, Elissa Longbourne's son (she cannot own it because she is a woman but she is managing it until her young son comes of age). The property had been bought by Elissa's evil husband before he died; he was cruel to her and put her through hell; hardening her heart and toughening her up.

The King summons Elissa Longbourne to his castle without telling her why and she is soon ordered to marry Sir Richard Blythe if she wishes to keep her home this way Sir Richard can return to his family's estate and the current owners would not lose their stake in the property. Sadly, poor Sir Richard is given no money or power over the estate so he goes basically as a glorified guest. The book takes you on a journey through a forced marriage into a happy ending (sorry if I ruined it for you but it ends well - don't most romance novels).

The book made me laugh because it was funny and I could feel what the characters were feeling throughout the book - Miss Moore did a great job getting inside the minds of the characters and portraying how she would feel had she been them in that time.

Did I mention that Sir Richard is a playwright (hardly a noble profession for the time period) - he spends a good deal of the book "writing" his next play since Elissa at first refuses to allow him to help her manage the estate at all.

Some reviewers have commented negatively on Elissa's character and her outward hostility of the King and her soon to be husband but I found it refreshing. To me it reflected that Elissa had a hard life and she turned adversity into strength which has helped her survive. I felt bad for all she had to go through but was glad she and Sir Richard were able to "live happily ever after"

About the Author
Prof Dogan Ibrahim graduated from the University of Salford with First Class Honours in Electronic Engineering. He then completed an MSc course in Automatic Control Engineering at the University of Manchester, and PhD in Digital Signal Processing at the City University in London. Prof Ibrahim worked at several companies before returning to the academic life. He is currently a lecturer at the Department of Computer Information Systems at the Near East University. Prof Ibrahim is a Fellow of the IET, and a Chartered Electrical Engineer. His interests are in the fields of microcontroller based automatic control, digital signal processing, and computer aided design.

A great book for the beginners on feedback control

I'm so sorry Dogan. But I've had your book for three years and it's not until now that I do a review of it. And your book is very very good book for learning about thermistors and feedback control. The first chapters are about the different kind of temperature sensors and what enviroment they are used in. Then the book goes on with the typical C-learning for beginners and the compiler used is FED C-compiler which is actually very good and has a lot of features. The laster chapters is about how to do an PI and PID controller with an 8-bit. Unfortunately the case study is for a slow measurement controller and not a fast controller, but with a little understanding of the topic you should have work as a fast controller (I succeeded :o)). But your book really taught me a lot about feedback control theory and practice, and I got the second highest grade at my final exam at University. So thank you for a really good book.

I have to assume that my little casebook meets a need in the field because it's in its third edition. With each new edition, I've added and deleted cases in order to be responsive to changes in the counselors' working environment. In the second edition, I replaced five long-term therapy cases with ones that illustrated brief counseling strategies. Prevailing economic conditions favored short-term interventions, as they still do. In this third edition, I've replaced three private practice cases with ones set in schools. The new cases deal with major problem areas, such as sexual abuse, addictions, dual diagnoses, seriously dysfunctional families, and foster care. School counselors tell me that these are the kinds of cases that they are seeing. The sum is a balanced set of case studies that reflect today's practice in school, agency, and private practice settings.

I think it's significant that several contributors chose case studies from their early days of training and supervised practice. Some have included supervisors as coauthors. This should encourage those of us who train counselors. Those debriefing sessions with a supportive mentor, confronting personal issues, and even the tedious requirement to transcribe dialog have a powerful cumulative effect on the emerging therapist.

This is a hard book to organize because each case is idiosyncratic. It would be nice if I could pigeonhole each case as illustrative of a single counseling method, but real-life cases just don't work that way, so I've simply put them in order of client age.

There's a summary chart (following the table of contents) that allows an at-a-glance comparison of the 16 cases. For example, the reader will see that Suzanne M. Hobson, an elementary-school counselor, employs child-centered therapy to treat a 4-year-old boy suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder resulting from physical and sexual abuse.

Each case is organized as follows:

Introduction. The initial paragraphs lay out the presenting problem and background information about the client. The reader should know that in every case the identities of clients have been disguised. (This section is not titled.)

Conceptualization. Here the author discusses therapeutic goals and strategies. The author may justify the use of a specific theoretical orientation, such as Adlerian, systems, cognitive, behavioral. A rationale for diagnosis is also discussed.

Process. Actual client contacts are described. What happened in the sessions? How did the therapist's relationship with the client change over time?

Outcome. The author describes the results, for better or worse. I did not ask authors to present their most successful cases. I was after the cases that touched them.

Discussion. With the benefit of hindsight, the author explains what he or she might have done differently. In addition, the author describes personal and professional growth that resulted from this encounter with a troubled youngster.

Authors have provided their e-mail addresses (see "Biographical Statements") and have assured me that they would love to hear from readers. Take them up on it and get in touch.

I anticipate that readers will develop strong feelings about these cases. At the risk of waxing eloquent, I think this book beats with the pulse of living psychotherapy.

What an awesome book!

Each case study in this book is told by the treating therapist/counselor/social worker/psychiatrist. They describe and critique their most challenging case in dealing with an adolescent. The problems addressed in the cases are varied and range from moderate to severe. We are using this book in a graduate-level counseling course to analyze each case and come up with alternative treatment methods than those that were used. This text gives a deep, in-depth look into the work and feelings of a therapist and their most memorable adolescent client. Highly recommend!

Currently coroner of Allegheny County (Pittsburgh), Pennsylvania, he is certified by the American Board of Pathology in anatomic, clinical, and forensic pathology and is a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Dr. Wecht is a Clinical Professor at the University of Pittsburgh Schools of Medicine, Dental Medicine, and Graduate School of Public Health, an Adjunct Professor at Duquesne University Schools of Law, Pharmacy and Health Services, and a Distinguished Professor at Carlow University. He is a past president of both the American College of Legal Medicine and the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. Dr. Wecht is the author of more than 500 professional publications and has appeared as a guest on numerous national television and radio talk shows.

John T. Rago, J.D., is Assistant Professor of Law at Duquesne University School of Law and the Director of both The Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law and the Law School’s Post-conviction DNA Project. He teaches criminal law and procedure to law students and graduate courses on wrongful convictions, foundations in American law and constitutional criminal procedure to students in the university’s Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences. Professor Rago also serves as an appointed member to the Innocence Project’s Policy Group of the Cardozo School of Law in New York. He is admitted to practice before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.

Opened my eyes.

Being new in leadership this book has given me a different way to look at people. There are the faithful loyal ones, but yet there are those that allow spirits to use them to kill, steal and destroy. Leaders need to look from different perspectives. I recommend this book to anyone in any leadership, or any lead role in life. It helps you to understand there are many different characters in the world.
