Its pretty good

I originally bought this because my teacher had the first one and out class used it like crazy. its a great book and has a lot of information that most people wouldn't necessarily think about and a lot of information that you just cant find anywhere else. i wish it was geared a little more to the NKBA side of things as well as having a little larger font. when youve been staring at the screen all day that tiny font is hard to see. :)

Commerical Interor Designers---Must Have This

As a professional commercial interior designer I have found this book to be excellent. There is wealth of information and is easy to locate in the book. The code section is streamlined and contains the 2009 IBC sections. The cost estimating section makes it easy to get preliminary cost for the client so they have an understanding of costs and can make decisions on what is affordable. Highly recommended must have for all commercial interior designers.

In 2002, he traveled to India, where most scientific research on yoga's medical benefits has been conducted. A comprehensive medical approach to yoga

Dr. McCall is the medical editor of Yoga Journal and many readers are familiar with his excellent articles in that prestigious publication. In 2002, Yoga Journal asked Dr. McCall to write a book on yoga therapy, but he was already working on Yoga as Medicine for two years. The author is a board-certified specialist in internal medicine and was a practicing physician for more than 12 years in the Boston area. At the beginning, Dr. McCall says that he approached yoga "in the same spirit that I'd brought to salsa dancing and tai chi", but then, as he was deepening into his practice, he began to notice important changes in his posture, his breathing, and many other aspects of his daily life. In 2000, he decided to devote himself full-time to investigate the value of yoga as a therapeutic instrument. He has visited many yoga centres and ashrams in the United States and India, exploring, asking students and instructors about the therapeutic value of their yoga practice, and collecting valuable information that is very difficult to access.

The book consists of three parts. Part 1: "Yoga as Medicine", makes a succinct presentation of the scientific basis of yoga and its contributions to health care. Part 2: " The Practice of Yoga", has numerous tips on how to establish a safe practice, how to choose a safe yoga style, and how to select a teacher. Part 3 " Yoga Therapy in Action", has 20 chapters devoted to a large array of conditions (arthritis, asthma, back pain, cancer, depression, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis, and many others). Dr. McCall, with information provided by leading yoga therapists, offers a brief overview of each condition, discusses in detail the scientific evidence of the contribution made by yoga to the treatment of the condition, and concludes with a series of recommended exercises appropriate for each condition, highlighting the benefits and the contraindications of each exercise. An appendix is devoted to the prevention of yoga injuries.

This book offers an unusual view of yoga. Dr. McCall uses crisp and clear language, his book is lucid and easy to understand, and scientific proofs are fully documented. Being both a competent physician and a skilled yoga practitioner who has explored many yoga traditions, Dr. McCall has the authority to disregard false claims from both sides and insists that a correct perspective is to recognize the complementarities of both approaches. He insists that yoga therapy is not a "magic bullet", but asserts that the characteristics of such therapy (being holistic, with increased effects over time, positive side effects, requiring patient's participation, major emphasis on prevention, etc.) makes yoga therapy ideal for the treatment of some chronic problems, such as diabetes, or arthritis. Dr. McCall is not hesitant to use many of the classical yoga terms (asanas, Pranayama, nadis, etc.), but he alerts us by affirming: "If notions like chakras and prana turn you off, just think of them as metaphors. We use this kind of metaphorical thinking in the West all the time... Good metaphors can help us understand, as yogis put it, 'what is' ". Many people remember his sense of humour from the video, Yoga Unveiled, which has a section on "Yoga as Therapy"; he mentions that on one occasion he was asked: "Will smoke get in the way of yoga?" and he replied "No, but if you are a smoker, yoga might get in the way of smoking."

The book is a treasure of information. It contains photographs of the exercises recommended for each condition. It has a comprehensive index, a list of Sanskrit words and names for the asanas, and a comprehensive list of sources of information, including the web sites of yoga therapists and institutions. This work is the best of its kind and it is the principal source of reference for those interested in discovering the therapeutic value of yoga. On the front cover of the book you will see the opinion of Dr. Mehmet Oz, Director of the Cardiovascular Institute of the New York Presbyterian Hospital: "Read this to find out why we teach our patients YOGA".

A wonderful reference book for teachers and practitioners

As a massage therapist and a yoga teacher I was extremely well pleased with this manual. Yoga as medicine makes a wonderful reference book to have in the studio or at home, Jam packed with excellent information from the author (a board certified Physician and yoga practitioner) and many Excellent leading yoga practitioners who each address a different chapter on subjects such as arthritis, Asthma, back pain, menopause, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, heart disease, cancer and many other conditions and diseases. There are passages on how to address the individual physically, mentally, and emotionally. The author approaches healing from both western and eastern philosophies, blending the two beautifully in this brilliant book.

What I really love is that each illness, condition or disease is divided into sections and addressed by different leading practitioners and Philosophers. All sections have a sequence to follow with good clear black and white photos (even portrait photos of the different authors of each chapter and short Bio's), advice, tips, contraindications, breathing techniques, visualizations and scientific and yogic perspectives and statistics.
AAdil Palkhivala writes about High blood pressure in Chapter 20. Roger Cole (my personal hero (unbeknown to him), I eat up all his anatomy articles on yoga)writes about how to deal with Insomnia in chapter 23. Judith Hanson lassater writes about Back Pain in Chapter 11. Richard Freeman writes the section on overeweight and obesity chapter 27. Elise Browning Miller covers Menopause in Chapter 25. Nischalla Joy Devi discusses heart disease. Rodney Yee talks about headaches in chapter 18. Gary Kraftsow's contribution is about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. There are many more contributors, Shakta Shanti Kaur Khalsa, John Friend,Michael Lee, Sam Dworkis and many others.
I think this is definitely a book every yoga teacher should own and any Massage therapist who is serious about empowering their clients to help themselves on the path to healing, educating them and guiding them to to make healthy lifestyle changes. Get this book!

An Introduction to the Benefits of Yoga

My sister in law recommended this book to me, she enjoyed it so much. I have taken yoga classes at my health club for the past 18 months as a way to stay flexible and active. I find that I loved taken the classes but each instructor had her own methods, level of difficulty, school of yoga, etc. I had no knowledge of the history behind yoga, the overall health benefits and different teaching style. This book is a great introduction, written for the layman but also written to help people with particular health problems that may benefit from certain postures. It's a must have for your yoga library. This book should be an addition to your other books, DVD's and other study materials. I find that I still need to attend classes to really benefit from yoga plus have a collection of yoga DVD/Video to alternate practices when I cannot get to a class. I use the book more as a reference now that I have read it than a guide for my practices.

About the Author

Simon Buxton

Simon Buxton has worked with Dynamics AX since its earliest incarnations, starting out as a consultant and developer in early 1999 when Dynamics AX was known as Damgaard Axapta 1.5. Simon quickly became a team leader at Columbus IT Partners and carried out one of the first AX implementations in the UK before joining a new reseller, Sense Enterprise Solutions, as its technical director. Sense Enterprise Solutions enjoyed a global reach through the AxPact alliance and Simon was placed as AxPact's technical lead. Simon played a major role in expanding the company to become a successful Microsoft partner and was the technical lead on a number of highly challenging technical projects around the world, from the UK, to Bahrain, to the USA. These projects included developing solutions for third-party logistics, multichannel retail, and eventually developing an animal feed vertical, as well as integrating Dynamics AX into production control systems, government gateways, and e-commerce solutions, among others. Sense Enterprise Solutions was sold to a major PLC and since then, Simon has teamed up with Binary Consultants as their technical architect, where he works with some of the most technically able AX and Microsoft .NET professionals in Europe. Binary Consultants are involved in the implementation, upgrade, and support of Microsoft Dynamics AX, the development of add-ons for AX 2012 and AX 7 (under the name Axponents), and vertical solutions in animal feed. Simon was the author of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 Administration Cookbook, published in 2013, by Packt Publishing, and was a reviewer on Implementing Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 with Sure Step 2012, which was published by Packt Publishing in March 2013.

Mat Fergusson

Mat Fergusson started his journey into software development in 1998 by studying software engineering at Sheffield University. After graduating, Mat took to working in IT infrastructure, quickly progressing from desktop support to infrastructure implementation and management. Armed with real-world experience of supporting users and seeing how applications and infrastructure are actually used, Mat began moving back into full-time application development, building classic ASP applications at the tail end of the .com boom. Mat was among the very early adopters of Microsoft's next generation development platform, .NET. Over the next few years, Mat would develop numerous web applications and integration projects using VB.NET and later C#, and in 2005, he started developing mobile business applications built on the Windows CE platform years before the iPhone made mobile applications ubiquitous. After completing the first release of an award-winning hosted health and safety mobile application, Mat decided to gain some broader experience and embarked on a one and a half year world tour, which saw him broadening both his IT and life skills by working for the Enterprise Applications division of HP in New Zealand and becoming a certified dive master in Thailand. Returning to the UK, Mat teamed up with his old colleagues and between them, they founded Binary Consultants, where he continues to work today. In the last 6 years, Mat has continued to refine his .NET development skills in his role as .NET Lead at Binary, and has been responsible for several highly specialist web applications for the cosmetic industry in Russia and the rapidly growing online gaming industry in Malta. In the last 2 years, Mat has started cross training in AX development, an experience that has helped him directly in writing this book with Simon. Mat's current specialty however, is the development of .NET applications for Binary's clients that extend the capabilities of AX by interfacing with the WCF services exposed by the AIF, introducing rich visualization and interactions that simply aren't possible with the AX client.

Very disappointed

I am under impression that neither the authors, nor the publisher’s copy-editors cared to proof-read the book. That’s why it is full of controversial and plain wrong statements; there are out of place paragraphs which are difficult to relate to anything in the chapter they are placed on; there are references to the unexisting chapters and topics that had not been introduced(Chapter 1 for example refers you to a topic which the authors and copy-editors claim was “discussed in the previous chapter” – where is my Chapter 0 then?). I can go on and go on and go on.
It’s not the reader’s job to make sense out of the book; it’s the author’s responsibility to make understanding feasible. I am very disappointed and can't recommend this book to anyone.

This is the book I will be recommending Dynamics AX2012 developers to read. I am impressed by the amount of walkthrough examples and guides. It is packed with content and both new and veteran developers can use this book to stay on top of AX2012 development. The book can be used for internal training or for rampup un your existing development skills. I bet most developers would want to go back and reread chapters whenever they need. I highly recommend this book for any AX2012 developer. Congratulations to the authors on completing this work. I wish there were books like this when I started working with Dynamics AX as a developer.

An excellent reference for programmers new to developing in Dynamics AX, also useful for those new to AX 2012 with good details about the features introduced in that version.

This book takes the reader through a very comprehensive case study, for developing a simple Fleet Management scenario in AX. All aspects are discussed, including solution design & planning, programming from data structures to user security setup, unit testing and performance profiling.

One of the Best 2nd Edition Products Back in Print

If you are like me you have worn out your Monstrous Manual from 1995. This is a very well done reprint by WOTC that is well worth picking up.

The cover has a green "fake leather" cover with gold lettering and some embossed areas. It looks much like the 1st edition reprints that came out last year. Very well done.

The binding looks sturdy and capable of withstanding many years of gaming.

The interior has golden brown flyleaves. The text and art work is very crisp. I was worried that the art work would be blurred like the 1st edition reprints but that is not the case here. I was surprised how nice it looked. The paper has a nice thick feel to it (more so than the original).

I have not checked extensively but it appears that the text was updated to fix some errata from the 'black book' version reprint.

I recommend picking up a copy of the book if your old one is looking worn or maybe just to slide onto the shelf next to the original. It is great to see 2nd Edition back in print.

For those stuck in the past orplagued with nostalgia

AD&D 2nd edition is far from the best iternation of the game in my opinion. It was also my first introduction to the game and it will always have a special place in my heart. I fondly recall adventuring through the various 2nd edition box sets of the 80s and 90s and when I saw these premium rereleases for sale I couldn't help but purchase them.

As fickle as D&D fans can be, I should point out one very important caveat: These are not reprints of the original 2nd edition books. These are based on the revised releases from the early 90s. That being said, they are still a great addition for any collection and demonstrate the transitional stages from Gygax's AD&D to the WotC published 3rd edition.

A must for any collector or nostalgia ridden sucker, such as myself.

I was amazed at the quality of the book when it arrived. Not only is the outside of it beautiful, but the artwork inside is much more crisp than it uses to be.

As far as monster manuals go this is one of the best. The ammount of monsters is great and the stat blocks are easy to read.

About the Author

Not that bad.

I'll be the first to admit it isnt the best arc ever written. The whole "new girl on a new planet she doesnt know" angle gets beaten to death and becomes quite predictable. However the art is very good and The sotry has some depth, which is more than one may say about a lot of comics out there. Over all its a good read, not a great one, but a good one and most importantly for me, it didnt bore. The effect of black kryptonite was a suprise for me which wasnt expected And the revamping of the characters origin by making her originally older than Kal and then finding herself to be youger than him was quite refreshing.

I bought the individual comics and am planning on buying the paperback.

Disappointing

I normally associate the name Jeph Loeb with words like "great", "innovative", and "groundbreaking"; but you won't find any of that here with his launch of Supergirl. Going back to his run on Superman/Batman, Supergirl: Power finds Superman's post-Crisis cousin Kara Zor-El donning the red, yellow, and blue suit of her cuz in her first adventures as a super hero. In this collection, she has run-in's with members of the JLA, meets the JSA and more notably her counterpart Power Girl, as well as Superboy, Poison Ivy, and Lex Luthor, as well as a duplicate. Loeb's writing here is below the kind of superhero yarns he usually crafts, which is a gigantic disappointment. His dialogue is weak and the story progression is predictable. There's some small tie-ins to Infinte Crisis, but even for completists of that series, this can be avoided. Ian Churchill's art features the kind of busty babes and muscled heroes you'd come to expect, and it's pretty well done for the most part, despite some cheesecake shots. All in all, Supergirl: Power is a disappointing work from one of the best and most well known names in all of comicdom, and while it may be worth a look for some, it won't hurt to do without it.

GOT THIS FOR HARLEY

POWER

Ah yes we all know of the super one called Superman but what about a little lady called Supergirl. To me I have always found her to be more interesting then the goody goody Kent. Don't ask me why but I was never really that into Superman. Supergirl had been gone for a while but she was brought back to life in the Superman/Batman series. Kara Zor-El then got her all new series and this friends along with Superman/Batman # 19 is the first five issues of that series.

Kara is in a new world and it seems this new world that she is supposed to protect does not want her. She has to deal with an over bearing cousin and his friend Batman, add in just about every other person in the DCU don't trust her. Lex Luthor is out there and he just may become a big player in all of this. Why is he interested in her and why is everyone else skeptical, well she just may have a dark side to her.

I will admit that while I do enjoy Kara I bought this because of the Harley Quinn appearance. I am in love with her, I know it is unhealthy. She's a comic character, I' am a real person but we will find a way, we will find a way. Any way I really did enjoy this story from beginning to end and the art here was excellent. I will say that the first half of the story seemed better paced and planned out. The second half while good could have been a bit longer. Her splitting into two [bad/good] could have been more epic in my opinion. Still over all it was good.

I wouldn't say that this is a classic but it sure is a fun read and I am sure most would agree. I do recommend this volume for any comic fans out there. It is a nice self discovery story and a coming of age type story. Like I said though, I really did get this for Harley. Oh Harley how I love thee.

Taking its name from the moon's dark plains, misidentified as seas by early astronomers, the black maria investigates African diasporic histories, the consequences of racism within American culture, and the question of human identity. About the Author
Aracelis Girmay is the winner of a 2015 Whiting Award for Poetry. She is the author of three poetry collections: the black maria (BOA Editions, 2016); Kingdom Animalia (BOA Editions, 2011), which won the Isabella Gardner Poetry Award and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award; and Teeth (Curbstone, 2007). She is also the author/illustrator of the collage-based picture book changing, changing (Braziller, 2005). Most recently, Girmay's poetry and essays have been published in Granta, Black Renaissance Noire, and PEN America, among other places. She has received grants and fellowships from the Jerome, Cave Canem, and Watson foundations, as well as Civitella Ranieri and the NEA. She is on the faculty of Hampshire College’s School for Interdisciplinary Arts and Drew University’s low residency M.F.A. program. A stunning book. Ingenious and passionate and canny. That Girmay is able to use two of poetry's most worn tropes, the sea and the moon, and imbue them with such vigor and freshness is a measure of just how strong this book is. Not to be missed.

Michael Ross is an award-winning journalist and the author, co-author, and collaborator of more than 32 books for Christian families, including the Gold Medallion winner BOOM: A Guy's Guide to Growing Up (Tyndale), and a bestselling parenting guide What Your Son Isn't Telling You (Bethany House). Michael is the former editor of Breakaway, a national magazine for teen guys published by Focus on the Family. Today, he oversees Back to the Bible's book publishing efforts. He and his wife Tiffany live in Lincoln, Nebraska, with their son Christopher.

Finally - a great Birds & Bees for boys

After starting with my daughter on "The Care & Keeping of You" (by the American Girl Co.), I really wanted to find a book for my son. He is almost 11, and things are starting to happen. This was the first book that tactfully goes thru all the changes & challenges that face pre-teen and teenage boys. I was very suprised at all the areas that are covered - even more than my husband or I would've thought of talking with him about. If you are going to start with this book with a pre-teen, I would just caution to either wait a little, or read thru the book yourself first. I felt it was more geared toward either a more mature pre-teen boy or the actual teenagers. I purchased the "Bloom" book for my 9-year old daughter at the same time. The American Girl book is just the right stage for her. I will be waiting a while before we start on the "Bloom" book for the same "maturity level" reasons.

this book is a fantastic tool to give a boy from 9 toQQQ.. iread it first to give myself a heads up///the shipper i chose took 20 days to get it to me..longest ive ever had to wait for anything that wasnt back ordered..

Book for adolescent boys

I bought this for my then 14 year old grandson.
You know boys that age are embarrassed to tell
you if they read something like this. So I don't
know. I read some of it and found it to be
very readable, and I feel it would be very
helpful to a young teen boy.
